A Mandurah police officer accused of using Facebook to send a child an indecent video and then encouraging the child to do an indecent act is expected to plead not guilty in Perth Magistrates Court on Friday.
The man cannot be named because of a previous court order suppressing his identity, address and image and to protect the identity of the alleged victim.
Magistrate Anne Longden said at the man’s first court appearance in Mandurah in October it was in the interests of justice to protect the child in the case, who was known to the accused.
The man’s lawyers successfully applied to have his bail varied so he could have unsupervised access to his own children.
His bail required him to resign from sports and community groups involving children.
The offences were alleged to have been committed on October 2 and 3, 2017.
The 41-year-old was charged as a result of an investigation into allegations of child sex offences by the Child Abuse Squad.
Child Abuse Squad detectives charged him with:
- Using an electronic communication with intent to expose a person aged under 13 years of age to an indecent matter; and
- Encourage a child to do an indecent act.
The officer was granted an adjournment to seek legal advice and was remanded to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Friday.
He is expected to face trial next year.
