Mandurah Catholic College (MCC) surfing pair April McPherson and Ruby Allen claimed a spot on the podium when they finished third in their final at the 2017 Surf Dive 'n Ski Australian Junior Surfing Titles in Sydney over the weekend.
Representing both their school and their state in the Mark Richards Shield under 19 girls category, the duo shone in their round one heat with a win over South Australia and New South Wales representatives landing them with an early spot in the finals.
They took to the water in the finals battling it out with New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria, and were able to finish in third place after notching a score of 9.17.

Surfing WA team manager Justin Majeks said the pair surfed superbly across the tournament.
“We’re really proud of the guys, they smashed it in the water,” he said.
“They probably would have liked to perform a bit better in the final but we thought they were fantastic.”
April topped her tournament off with a selection to the honorary schools team.
