Mandurah returned to form and cemented their spot in the Peel Cricket Association top four with an impressive victory over the Hillman Hornets on Saturday.
Led by a stunning knock from Anuj Dal and some prolific bowling from Ian Lattimore, Mandurah was able to bounce back from a loss to Shoalwater Bay in outstanding fashion, ensuring Hillman fell more than 100 runs short of the required total.
The victors enjoyed a strong start after being sent into bat first, with openers Ben Drummond and Lattimore putting together a 38-run stand before the latter was caught off a Mitchell Hind delivery.
The Hornets looked to take advantage of the early fall, and struck twice more through bowlers Ben and Wayne Hasson.
But Dal’s arrival at the crease steadied Mandurah, as he compiled a game-high 81 runs to put his team in a powerful position.
Teaming with Justin Solly (36), the pair pieced together a 114-run partnership before Solly became Ben Hasson’s second wicket in what would eventuate to be an impressive 4/25 day for the bowler.
A late knock of 28 from Matthew Jenkinson gave the final push for Mandurah’s batsmen, leading the team to 8/249 at the end of 50 overs.
Hillman suffered from a disastrous start when Daniel Steinke was dismissed for a golden duck and fellow opener Jack Green for just eight.
Hind did his best to right the ship with a sharp half century, but even his 55 could not get the team within striking distance.
Lattimore was on fire with the ball, claiming Hind as his first victim as he recorded 5/18 from 8.2 overs.
All out for 144, Mandurah ensured Hillman’s losing streak was extended to five games.
Pinjarra defeat White Knights Baldivis
Jamie Lee played the game of his life when he led Pinjarra to a thumping win over Baldivis on the weekend.
Starting with the ball, Lee was as close to perfect as it comes taking any slight chance he got as he finished with 5/5 from just three overs.
His form with the ball led the way as Pinjarra sent Baldivis packing on 70 runs in the 21st over.
But Lee took his dominance to a whole new level with the bat, carving out a league-season-high of 144 runs as he individually more than doubled Baldivis’ entire team score.
His efforts included 21 boundaries (six of them for 6) and also accounted for much more than half of his own side’s total, as Pinjarra romped to 236 on their way to a win.
Singleton defeat Shoalwater Bay
Singleton stretched their unbeaten run to five games when another stout team effort led them over Shoalwater Bay on Saturday.
Electing to bat first, Shoalwater was in massive trouble when the loss of openers Sean Hetel and Jason Hind left them in a 2/5 hole.
Grant Coles carved out 44 runs but a 4/25 performance from Ian Bowes helped restrict Shoalwater to just 139 runs.
Singleton cruised past the required total, finishing on 8/210 led by knocks of 64 and 40 from Danny Woollard and Tim Hutchison respectively.
South Mandurah defeat Warnbro Swans
South Mandurah made it two in a row when some sharp bowling helped them take down the Warnbro Swans on Saturday.
Being sent into bat first the Souths boys found themselves in a small slump sitting at 3/25 in the early stages, but an unbeaten 51 from Nicholas Scholl teamed with solid knocks by Michael Holmes (48) and Phil Wirth (38) helped them pile up 216 before being all out in the 44th over.
Warnbro looked a threat when opener Ben Hinson carved out 48 runs, but solid bowling from Wirth (4/34) and Jesse Buck (3/14) allowed the Falcons to steady and dismiss the Swans on 139.
Waroona defeat Halls Head
A well-rounded performance led Waroona to its fifth win from five games with a victory over Halls Head.
Batting first, Halls head received solid contributions from Craig Ford (45), Will Eason (22*) and Andrew Tatterson (22) but were only able to muster 9/135 from their 50 overs due to some efficient Waroona bowling.
The victors’ form with the ball carried into their batting innings, with openers Ben Wright (38) and Daniel Abel (43) giving the team a partnership of 67 before the first wicket fell.
Mitchell Smith nailed 41 runs to put the finishing touches on another victory for Waroona, who finished on 191.
