Ocean Road Primary School gets in the festive spirit for a cause | Photos

Ocean Road Primary School students have banded together ahead of the festive season to create and sell Christmas ornament for a good cause.

Through making mini clay Christmas ornament year three and four students hope to raise funds for peers who may need assistance funding school excursions.

Art teacher Qing Zhu said the project was a fun and festive way to help less fortunate students participate in school activities.

Ms Zhu said each student would make around four or five ornaments and they will be sold to parents at assemblies or throughout the term.

Students were lucky enough to have assistance by Dwellingup artist Patricia Hines.

Ms Hines worked one-on one with the students, inspiring them to draw and paint.

The project forms part of the school’s Specialist Arts Program, which has been supported by The City of Mandurah’s through its Creative Mandurah grant.

Ocean Road Primary School successfully secured the $2000 grant for this program earlier in the year.

The program is available to all students at no extra cost.

Ms Zhu arranged for the incursion based program so students could meet professional artists one-on-one.

Local and regional artists will continue to visit Ocean Road Primary School to give students and the community a “hands on arts experience”.
