Peel footy flashback: Thunder colts, Harvey Bulls take out 2005 premierships | photos

The Peel region showed they held some of the best up and coming football talent in the country in 2005 when a star-studed Peel Thunder colts team made it back-to-back WAFL colts premierships.

Led by the likes of Rory O’Brien, Hayden Ballantyne and Matt Riggio, the Thunder won their second straight colts flag with a victory over East Fremantle.

It followed a stellar year for the Thunder colts, with a several of the team’s players going on to the AFL level.

Local footy produced back-to-back success as well, with the Harvey Bulls thumping the minor premier Rockingham Rams to the tune of 80 points to claim their second Peel Football League flag in two years.

They were led by Ryan Redfern, who took out the grand final’s best on ground award just a week after winning the Ross Elliott Medal to take a clean sweep on the year’s highest honours.

Fellow Harvey boy Mark Cherubino took out the Mandurah Mail medal.

Rockingham’s Sam Hart claimed the trophy for leading goal-kicker on the year after booting 65.

Mandurah took out a win in the colts grand final, while the Rams were successful in the reserves.
