There were plenty of frozen margaritas, tequila shots, tacos and mariachis at the opening of Funky’s Mexican Cantina on Wednesday night.
The Dolphin Quay restaurant came to life for the occasion, with a steady stream of food coming out of the kitchen – including tacos, chipotle chicken wings, and freshly made guacamole – for residents to have a taste.
Residents also had the opportunity to dance to the tunes of some of South America’s most iconic songs performed by a pair of mariachis, such as La Cucaracha, La Bamba and Bandolero, before trying on a colourful sombrero.
The Mexican eatery was the brain child of Manish Gupta, the award-winning restaurateur behind Hog’s Breath franchises in Mandurah and Bunbury.
“The same approach I take for Hog’s Breath Cafe Mandurah and Hog’s Breath Cafe Eaton will be taken for Funky’s Mandurah, where I want to look after the community, whether it is sponsoring children’s sports teams, or supplying food to community kitchens which feed the homeless, or supporting age care facilities,” Mr Gupta said in July.
“We want to come in and help and support the community, and become a strong part of the community, as we have with Hog’s Mandurah.”
The restaurant features a full kitchen, a big menu, high-quality service and “fresh and funky decor”.
