It’s only a matter of weeks until Mandurah’s eastern foreshore comes to life to celebrate winter with the city’s first Winter Wonderland and real ice-skating experience.
From August 4 to August 27, the eastern foreshore will be home to a pop-up 18m by 24m open air ice-skating rink for all ages, overlooking the Peel-Harvey estuary.
The family-friendly winter-themed event will include delicious food and drinks from local businesses sold at small pop-up shops, a cabin bar, live entertainment and free winter activities for all ages.
The initiative was created by business owners in the area and space activation organistion Shape Mandurah in a bid to inject some life in the area during the quiet winter months.
“With the change of weather, it’s just a fact that when it’s raining and cold outside no one really wants to venture out,” DPM owner Sophie Price said.
“Hopefully with the winter festival up and coming it will encourage people to stick around Mandurah and actually do activities with their family around here rather than travelling to other places.”
The team is also working on initiatives to activate and energise the foreshore area during the Mandurah Terrace closures scheduled for August, which will allow for the bridge replacement road linking works to be undertaken.
Mandurah City mayor Marina Vergone said it was great to see businesses which may be affected working together on business-driven solutions to increase patronage during the closure period.
“It’s great to see our local business owners working in partnership with each other and the community driven Shape Mandurah group to bring about positive outcomes and space activation while Mandurah Terrace needs to be closed,” she said.
“They have put a lot of thought and effort into the Winter Wonderland theme, and I’m excited to see the foreshore transformed for this amazing event.”
Ice-skating sessions will run for approximately 45 minutes and will be available Sunday to Thursday from 10am to 8pm, and Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 9pm.

Tickets include the hire of the skates. Penguin stabilisers will be available for hire.
Tickets booked before August 2 will go in a draw to win 90 prizes including:
