Mandurah is set to have a brand new Mexican cantina-style restaurant at Dolphin Quay if a local businessman’s application to liquor licencing authorities goes to plan.
Funky Mexican Cantina Mandurah – or Funky’s Mandurah for short – is the brain child of Manish Gupta, the award-winning restaurateur behind Hog’s Breath franchises in Mandurah and Bunbury.
He is now turning his hand to a Mexican cuisine which he promises will have a full kitchen, a big menu, high-quality service and “fresh and funky decor”.
Mr Gupta said in his application there would be “nothing like this restaurant” in Mandurah and Funky’s Mexican would cater to families looking for a “fun and vibrant” night out.
He said there would also be a local jobs boost, as the restaurant would be hiring both front and back of house staff.
The restaurant would also give back to the community, he said.
“The same approach I take for Hog’s Breath Cafe Mandurah and Hog’s Breath Cafe Eaton will be taken for Funky’s Mandurah, where I want to look after the community, whether it is sponsoring children’s sports teams, or supplying food to community kitchens which feed the homeless, or supporting age care facilities,” he said.
“We want to come in and help and support the community, and become a strong part of the community, as we have with Hog’s Mandurah.”
