Mandurah Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service (VFRS) celebrated a very important milestone in style recently, marking 50 years of serving the community.
Members, ex-members, WA Volunteer Fire Service officials, politicians and friends and family turned out to memorialize the definite impact the service has had on the general safety of the community.
Mandurah mayor Marina Vergone and Member for Mandurah David Templeman were in attendance.
“It’s great that we can have this many people all turn out for the occasion,” Mandurah VFRS member and organiser Tara Curtis said.
“As much as this is a volunteer fire brigade, I think for everyone here it’s just as much about being a part of this community group.”
The night was more than just celebrating 50 years of service, with the coming together of some families showing the strong connection, including the Luffs, who can boast 53 service years between them.
“We’re all a part of this brigade because, one, it’s serving the community, but also it’s a community in itself,” Mandurah VFRS 34-year member Murray Luff said.
Member for Mandurah David Templeman acknowledged at the event the significant contribution current and past members of the Mandurah Brigade had played over the last 50 years.
"For five decades men and women from our local area have volunteered to respond to fire and rescue emergencies in our Region,” he said.
