Planning for a school ball can be a tedious and expensive task, but Coodanup College student Bree Lewis is hoping she can help another girl make the process easier by giving away her dress for free.
The Year 12 student put a call out on social media on Wednesday night offering to give her $200 Year 11 ball dress to someone who otherwise couldn’t afford to buy one, receiving waves of support from the community.
Ms Lewis said she remembered the stressful process of preparing for her ball last year and constantly worrying about spending too much money.
“Ball season is stressful, worrying about money, if you'll have enough for hair, makeup, a dress,” she said.
“I remember preparing for my Year 11 ball last year and stressing about spending too much.”
However, she didn’t want anyone to miss out on it because they couldn’t afford it, so she decided to give her dress away.
Firstly, she thought about donating it to a local op-shop, but decided to take to social media instead so the recipient didn’t have to pay a cent.
“I don't want anyone to miss out on that amazing experience simply because of money,” she said.
“I wanted the dress to be completely free.
“Checking a dress off someone's list for no price at all is what I wanted.”
She hasn’t received any expressions of interest yet, but she is hoping someone will come forward.
Ms Lewis’ blue dress was bought from Spoil Yourself in Cockburn last year and was only worn once.
Anyone interested in getting the dress can get in touch with Ms Lewis through social media.
