The bushfire mitigation summit promised by state Labor before the March election has been confirmed, scheduled to be held in Mandurah on June 23.
The summit will be an opportunity for invited stakeholders to discuss lessons learnt from previous bushfires and to work on a way forward to improve bushfire mitigation, according to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
The all-day event will look at targets for prescribed burns, local government agency responsibilities and the experience of bushfire volunteers.
Key stakeholders will have the opportunity to sit down together to discuss achievable outcomes for mitigating bushfires.
Local MPs from across the political spectrum have been invited in what is intended to be a multi-partisan approach.
“This summit is an important step to take in the State's response to mitigating bushfires,” Emergency Services Minister Fran Logan said.
"There will be a lot of experience in the room and it's a fantastic opportunity for everyone involved in fighting bushfires to discuss what they believe are the best ways to mitigate these devastating natural disasters.
"I look forward to having an open and constructive conversation with some of the State's most experienced and valued bushfire fighters.”
The Association of Volunteer Bush Firefighters (AVBFB) said they were very keen to hear from volunteers and local government with views on the state’s mitigation strategies,
Volunteer firefighters who wish to make a submission to the AVBFB on their views can do so by filling out their online submission form or contacting their zone representative.
