The community of Waroona is set to rally around a mobile health service on Wednesday after the state government axed its funding.
The Peel Mobile Health Service provides general practice medicine, clinics for homeless teenagers, counselling to those affected by the Waroona-Yarloop bushfires, and child and adolescent mental health services to the Waroona community.
GP down south has put the call out to the local community to attend a public event to show support for the service and to “help us keep the pressure on the government to reverse their decision”.
“Since 2012 the Peel Mobile Health Service has provided and supported valuable health care initiatives and has become a local, trusted provider, embedded in the Peel community,” GP down south said.
“It is a well utilised, efficient and effective program.
“The Peel Mobile Health Service has been integral in attracting new health services to regional areas of Peel and in linking and promoting existing services.”
In May, some of the community service providers who helped establish and fund the service registered their disappointment at the axing of government funding for the service.
The Peel Mobile Health Service was an initiative of the the Peel Health Foundation and supported by Alcoa, Barbagallo Mandurah, Bendigo Bank, the region’s Rotary clubs as well as the government.
