A dedicated team of Secret Harbour surf life savers shone at the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships on the Gold Coast last month.
The all-female team of 12 formed just six months ago to compete in the March Past competition.
After strong results in their WA and preliminary events, they were able to place 20th of 24 teams at the national level, and were presented with the competitions’ encouragement award.
Coach Robyn Bevan said it was a proud moment for the team to celebrate how far they had come.
“It was really great for us all to go over east and compete given we’d only had six months of training,” she said.
“We wanted a score of less than 10 deduction points and we finished with eight so we were really pleased.
“To be awarded the encouragement award was really special for our group.”
They are the first Secret Harbour team to compete in the championships.
