Hundreds of residents in the Peel region will take to Pinjarra’s Skate Park on April 1 for a day of freestyle skate, BMX and scooter competitions, street art and food stalls as part of the Street Chillz Drug Aware Youth Fest.
The event will hold a freestyle skate, scooter and BMX competition for the region’s extreme sports enthusiasts as well as an urban street art sesh by graffiti gurus Graphite Crew.
The skate, scooter and BMX competition is open to anyone in the region with a feel for extreme sports. It will run from 4pm to 8pm and will include a girl’s only group.
Participants can register for the competition by downloading a form from Freestylenow.net and taking it to the registration table at the Skate Park at 3pm. Helmets are essential.
At the urban art sesh participants will learn how to create their own intricate designs on a skateboard deck which they’ll be able to take home.
The event will also feature bungee trampolines, a bouncy obstacle course, stunt jump, laser tag, other Radrock activities, plenty of food stalls, and a children’s corner for younger punters.
Shire president Maree Reid said the event was a hit last year, with more than 500 people taking to Pinjarra.
Prior to the event, teenagers will also have the opportunity to attend a free Urban Art Workshop by Graphite Crew at the Pinjarra Skate Park on March 25 to learn more about inspiring street art.
The event will start at 3pm and will include free pizza for the participants.
MyVoice Youth Reference Group chairman Luke Da Silva said he was keen to see more happening for younger people in the Peel region.
The myVoice Reference Group is a community group for young people in the Murray area aged 12 to 25 who wish to have a say into potential youth programs in the district.
The Street Chillz Drug Aware Youth Fest is part of Youth Week and it’s a smoke, alcohol and drug free event.
