A trio of Mandurah swimmers dashed their way to successful finishes at the WA State Open and Age Championships held over four days at HBF Arena last month.
Fifteen-year-olds Sophie Vergone and Jasmin Allan, along with 13-year-old Damien Badenhorst, returned home with a number of medals hanging over their shoulders.
Sophie picked up a whopping four gold medals, three silvers and six bronze with best results in her age group for the 400IM.
She also won gold in the open category for the same event.
Jasmin shone in her pet event, picking up a silver in the 100m breaststroke, while Damien won gold in the 200m butterfly, silver in the 100m butterfly and silver in the men’s relay.
All three swimmers train with JCS Performance squad locally under the guidance of coaches James Hornby and Tash Vergone, and are members of the Breakers Swim Club also training in Perth.
Their next event is the Brisbane Age National Championships in April.
All the kids have qualified for the prestigious event with multiple qualifying times and are looking forward to the next challenge.
