Lakelands residents will have a new shopping precinct by mid-2017, with noticeable progress on the centre’s construction visible from Mandurah Road.
Though early discussions of the project with the Mandurah council in 2014 estimated the project’s completion in 2016, developer Peet’s chief Brendan Gore then said it was too early to give a set timeline, as items were still being finalised.
This week Mr Gore said that since getting the green light for construction of the town centre, the project has been tracking well.
“Construction commenced in April this year and is running to schedule with the Coles, Kmart and specialty shop mall now clearly visible from Mandurah Road,” Mr Gore said.
When complete the 20,000sqm shopping complex will include a Coles, ALDI, K-Mart, service station, 40 specialty shops and service providers, a medical centre, a pharmacy, fast food outlets and a childcare centre, as well as at least 1,100 car bays.
Those regularly driving along Mandurah Road will have noticed the roadworks around the centre, where two new intersections at Banksiadale Gate and Lake Valley Drive are being constructed.
These roads will provide two additional entry points into Lakelands Estate.
The road works are expected to continue until mid-2017.
