A TRAILER belonging to bushfire relief workers was stolen on Monday, hampering volunteer efforts to provide support to victims of the recent Waroona Yarloop bushfire.
Between 7am and 2pm on Monday, a steel trailer containing some construction equipment – including much needed fence-posting equipment – was stolen from the Blazeaid volunteer on Waroona oval.
Blazeaid Waroona co-ordinator Brian Carr said fortunately the trailer wasn’t yet fully equipped.
“Fortuntaely, there was very little [in it],” he said.
“We have six brand-new trailers here to do the Blazeaid operation.
"Most of the others have already gone out to the properties.
"This one was in the process of being set up, so it had very little in it, it only had a couple of hundred dollars worth of gear in it.”
The Blazeaid trailers are used to convey equipment – including chainsaws and post drivers – to help farmers replace their fences destroyed in the recent fires.
Mr Carr said the trailer was as-new, so should be fairly easy to spot.
“It is in very obviously new condition, it hadn’t ever been used, and someone’s just come up, hooked it on and driven away with it,” he said.
“It’s a tradie trailer with checkerplate covers on each side.
"It’s dual axle, but we haven’t even put any of the badges on it yet.”
Mr Carr said the alleged theft had been reported to police.
