A TOTAL fire ban is in place for parts of the Perth Metropolitan, South West, Great Southern, Goldfields Midlands and Midwest Gascoyne regions today.
The ban is in place for practically everywhere south of the North Gascoyne, including Mandurah and all surrounding areas.
In the Perth Metropolitan are and surrounding areas, the ban applies to: Armadale, Bassendean, Bayswater, Belmont, Cambridge, Canning, Chittering, Claremont, Cockburn, Cottesloe, East Fremantle, Fremantle, Gingin, Gosnells, Joondalup, Kalamunda, Kings Park and Botanic Garden, Kwinana, Mandurah, Melville, Mosman Park, Mundaring, Nedlands, Peppermint Grove, Perth, Rockingham, Serpentine-Jarrahdale, South Perth, Stirling, Subiaco, Swan, Victoria Park, Vincent and Wanneroo.
The bans come into place as two fires in the Shire of Harvey have been downgraded to Watch and Act status.
The initial fire was reported at 2.30pm on Sunday, and spread to around 1120 hectares.
The second fire was reported at 3.30pm on Monday, and burnt around 50ha.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services said the second fire was deliberately lit, with three separate sources of ignition found.
Both DFES and firefighters continue to monitor the area.
Yarloop residents housed in temporary accommodation had to be evacuated as the blaze threatened Harvey, less than a month after their town was practically destroyed by fire.
Anyone who has information on the deliberately-lit fire is urged to report any suspicious behaviour to Police Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
