LIGHTNING hit the Pinjarra evacuation centre and later a nearby tree leaving more than 70 Murray residents without power.
Emergency service officer Ryan Hamlin said the centre had organised generators and power would be restored as soon as possible.
Waroona resident Mandy Lewis said she was underneath the outside shelter when the lightning hit which was "terrifying".
"After three hours sleep in 48 hours I just burst out in tears when I heard the loud bang," she said.
"The centre staff have been fantastic but after hearing about Yarloop, I think emotions are running high."
Later in the morning a lightning bolt hit a tree behind the centre which Murray Shire staff attended.
Shire town maintenance worker David Vernon said the tree would have to be removed as it was split to the bark and unsafe.
"This doesn't normally happen so close to town but with all these people in the area we want to clear it up quickly," he said.
