The Salvation Army will continue the many wonderful Christmas celebrations across Mandurah by presenting Carols on the Foreshore this coming Saturday.
“I’m really excited about this year’s Carols,” Captain Scott Ellery said . “It’s going to be a wonderful opportunity for people gathering together from across Mandurah to sing their favourite carols, hear the Christmas story and celebrate this wonderful time of year.”
Held at the Rotunda on the Eastern Foreshore, the Salvos will be joined by The Silver Threads Band and The Mandurah Voices in Harmony Choir. The band and choir will be supporting all the carols that are sung together on the night and they will be presenting their own special Christmas items. There will also be a solo item as Bill Flinn, one of the Salvos’ own, sings ‘Mary Did You Know’.
Carol booklets will be supplied at the event so everyone can join in singing the festive songs. During the night there will be an opportunity for young people to get involved by dressing up in supplied costumes and participating in a guided presentation of the Nativity. Rumour has it a jolly man in a red suit will also be attending to meet the children and sing a few carols.
Starting at 5.30pm, this free event will also include a free sausage sizzle cooked up by The Salvation Army Emergency Services trailer.
“We wanted to make these Carols accessible for everyone, so we chose a time that wouldn’t make it too late for young families and still light enough for those who don’t like driving at night,” Mr Ellery said.

Many people today are disenchanted with the commercialisation of Christmas, the overspending, and the focus on materialism and gift-getting. This is why these Carols are so important. Firstly, they are fun and a celebration of a joyous time of year. Secondly, they bring people together from all walks of life. Thirdly, they remind us of the original story of Christmas.
Silent Night reminds us that Mary was a virgin at Jesus’ birth and how the shepherd’s came and heavenly hosts sang. Angels We Have Heard on High and Hark the Herald Angels Sing remind us that angels came to lowly shepherds to bring the good news of His birth.
Carols on the Foreshore begins at 5.30 pm on Saturday at the Eastern Foreshore at the Rotunda.
