The doors of WA’s first new-look David Jones opened in Mandurah on Thursday morning, with a line of customers eager to get a look.
The 4000sqm store – which is a flagship for the $350 million Mandurah Forum redevelopment – displays the company’s new sleek and contemporary design.
But while customers may only see what the new store has to offer on the surface, retail director Aaron Faraguna said it’s the new-found flexibility which shoppers will really benefit from.
“The nature of this new store format is that we can bring brands in and out quite easily, at not a lot of expense so that’s what we're really excited about,” he said.
“Customers can come and shop in our store, tell us what they like, and also tell us what we're missing, and we're able to bring things into this market that they haven't had before.
“That's the idea behind the vision of the new David Jones store; the flexibility to allow us to change brands and bring in others in on a regular basis, and surprise and delight customers in different ways.”

The store will stock the national and international brands David Jones has become known for, such as Country Road, Saba, Sportscraft, Politix, Witchery, Mimco, Rodd and Gunn, MAC, Estee Lauder, Clarins and Ella Bache.
The store also has a personal shopping suite with personal shoppers – a free service which can be booked online – as well as the click and collect, concierge and gift wrapping services.
“We also fantastic beauty rooms which provide beauty services, make-up tutorials and facials,” Mr Faraguna said.
“And we've recruited 70 of Mandurah's best and brightest to come and work in our stores so we're very excited to be supporting the local community.”
South Yunderup model Raquisha Kearing was one of the models on hand on opening day and said had been looking forward to the department store arriving in Mandurah.
“We've got some different variety of clothing coming to Mandurah which is good; it suits more of a local girl’s style,” she said.
“So if you're a certain type of person who wears a certain type of clothing, you're bound to find it in here.”
