A local rocker trio has been picked to perform at South West festival Groovin the Moo, and were tricked on live radio in the process.
Mandurah surf rock trio Good Doogs received a phone call from Triple J jokers Ben and Liam, who stitched up the winners, pretending they were an obscure festival organiser for the ‘Tri-annual Triathlon’ music festival.
After a brief bout of confusion and drummer Michael Grainger questioning their authenticity, the radio hosts unveiled their true identity and revealed the real reason of the phone call; that the new band has a spot in the Groovin the Moo lineup.
The festival will be held in Bunbury on Saturday, May 12 from 10.30am.
The Mandurah trio will play alongside a lineup of popular bands including Flight Facilities, Portugal. The Man, Royal Blood from the UK and Vera Blue, to name a few.
The local band, that formed in April last year, includes singer and lead guitarist Asher Iriks, Rhythym guitarist Dylan Brown and Michael on drums.
Michael said the band did not enter a competition to play at the Australia-wide festival.
“It’s not that you had to enter to play,” Michael explained. “You had to be in the area and they picked the band that was most suitable.”
Michael said their new single, Nothing To Do, “must have tickled their fancy”.

“Our first ever single, Try My Best, got a lot of plays on Unearthed, but never the main station,” he said.
“Nothing To Do gets played once-a-day or once every two-days on the main station.”
He said the band was a fan of the Groovin the Moo and had been “heaps of times”.
“It’s going to be a good one for the band for sure,” he said. “It’s great exposure.”
The band is leaving this Friday on a national tour to promote their single and will be stopping in seven locations including Brisbane, Gold Coast, Melbourne and Adelaide.
Michael said they will not be playing in Mandurah, because there was no venues that allow live music after Rollercoaster shut last year, but they will be playing in Bunbury.
Michael said the band was influenced by Californian surf rock bands like Wavees, Best Coast and Fidlar.
