A man pleaded guilty to travelling 61 kilometres an hour over the speed limit along Lakes Road in Greenfields when he appeared in the Mandurah Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.
Prosecuting officer Tamara Read told the court Troy Sebastian Fletcher was caught driving at a speed of 131 km/h in a 70 km/h zone, on the afternoon of August 9, 2017.
The defence lawyer said the 37-year-old welder had been out of trouble for 10 years and was cooperative with police.
He said Fletcher was dealing with health issues at the time, but understood there was no excuse for putting other road users lives at risk.
Magistrate Anne Longden accepted Fletcher was not thinking clearly at the time and took into account his cooperation with police.
However Ms Longden said she did not accept part of the personal reference for Fletcher, when it said he was “unlucky” to be caught driving at that speed.
Fletcher was dealt a $1500 fine, $190.85 costs and a six-month licence disqualification.
