Volunteer fire fighters and brigades from around the state converged on the track in Mandurah for two days of competition at the WA State Open Championships over the weekend.
Brigades from as far south as Esperance through to metropolitan areas including Bassendean and Roleystone brought their hoses, carts and couplings to Mandurah for the competition, kicking off early Saturday morning and wrapping up mid-Sunday afternoon.
The competition puts runners through their paces in both dry-work and wet-work drills, simulating firefighting situations.
The championships showcase the skill, speed and agility of firefighting volunteers in a spirited sporting environment.
They are the pinnacle of brigade competition, sponsored by Alcoa and sanctioned by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
