The Peel region’s sport and recreation sector is set to receive a $2.6 million boost thanks to the latest round of funding from the state government funding.
Projects in the City of Mandurah, Shire of Murray and Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale will share in the funding, which caters to important upgrades in facilities.
A total $1.3 million has been allocated to develop three ovals with floodlighting at the Lakelands District Open Space, while a further $1 million will help improve drainage and install floodlights at Briggs Park.
A skate park in the Shire of Murray will benefit from $251,000 handed out in the round.
Statewide, a total $9.35 million worth of funding will be handed out as part of the Community Sport and Recreation Facilities Fund.
Minister for Sport and Recreation Mick Murray said the project would not only improve WA’s recreation sector, but would help create jobs.
“Quality facilities assist in making sure our communities are healthy and active, and new sporting infrastructure ensures clubs can attract new members and retain existing ones,” he said.
“These new projects often require work from local small businesses, which helps create jobs in the suburbs and the regions – ensuring we are not only keeping communities fit and healthy, but growing employment opportunities throughout WA.
“These projects require work from local contractors, including carpenters, electricians, concreters and other tradespeople – making sure these programs are supporting local jobs in our communities.”
