Mandurah’s gentle giant has been bridging the age gap and proving that age is just a number.
Liam Strachan is a regular at Brightwater Care Group’s aged care facility, The Cove, volunteering his time to provide pet therapy with his Australian silky terrier.
But for the 21-year-old, the weekly visits are more than just an outing for his pet dog.
Liam has already discovered the two-fold benefits of volunteering.

Aged care residents love interacting with him, but Liam said he gains wisdom from talking to older people, and he is quick to acknowledge that volunteering is a good use of time while he isn’t working.
“Initially, what locked me into volunteering was the opportunity to provide pet therapy to the residents by visiting with my Australian silky terrier, but after a while it was the conversations that really mattered,” he said.
“I love working with people, especially seniors, who have so much to share.”
