The Mandurah Masters Swimming Club will be well represented at what is arguably WA’s most famous open water swim this weekend, the Rottnest Channel Swim.
The local club will have 17 of its members taking to the water to compete in the dash, including two teams of four made up entirely of Mandurah swimmers.
It will form the highest participation the Mandurah area has ever provided for the swim, which will be held this Saturday, February 24.

Impressively, six of the masters swimmers will compete in the solo event for the first time, including Glenda Hurtado, Wayne Cable, Jodi O’Connor, Kerrie Williamson, Caelan Hurley and Julia Norris.
The teams of four consist of Paul Jacklin, Kate Smith, Greg Cockram and Ray Reynolds in one squad, with Simon Lyons, Greg Flynn, Grant Johnston and Gary Foale making up the second.
Shona Smith will also compete as part of a team at the swim, while Tanya Shaw and Jeannette Rein will tackle it head on as a duo.
The Rottnest Channel Swim will see the competitors crossing a 19.7km distance surrounded by a network of support crews.
Last year’s event saw local champion Rebekah Weller celebrate her birthday with an overall win in the swim.
The Mandurah Masters will also have 14 of their swimmers taking on the Port to Pub open water dash, which crosses from Leighton Beach to Rottnest Island next month.
Wendy Kennedy will swim the Port to Pub solo for the first time, while Barbara Pellick will tackle it for an outstanding 29th time.
