An unbeaten 93 from James Stuart gave Shoalwater Bay just what they needed to squeak by Mandurah in a thriller at Meadow Springs Turf on Saturday.
Stuart’s surge came just in time with the game hanging in the balance after the Seals’ top order caved in on itself.
Sitting in a gaping 4/15 hole the outlook was bleak for Shoalwater, but Josh Senior was able to somewhat steady the ship with 40 before the seventh-in-line Stuart bashed his way to 93 runs and a victory.
Being sent in to bat first, Mandurah had its own worries when the loss of opener Jeremy Leatherbarrow left them in a 1/7 slump.
But a 90-run stand between Ben Drummond (36) and Matt Jenkinson (63) breathed life into their campaign.
Anuj Dal helped fan the flames with 25 runs but the fire flickered out in the back end of the innings, with Mandurah wrapping up 50 overs on 8/171.
Stuart was also destructive with the ball, taking 4/26 from 10 overs.
Shoalwater was off to a nightmare start when they lost Daniel Swain before the side could post a run.
The wickets of Sean Hetel (9), Joey Teague (0) and Nicholas Milligan (0) soon followed and it wasn’t until Senior teamed up with Graham Spinks that they managed some kind of consistency.
Spinks eventually went down on 15, and Stuart walked to the crease ready to lift his side to a win.
His knock of 93* saw Shoalwater just edge out their opponents, finishing 7/174 off their 50 overs.
The result bridges the gap between Mandurah and Shoalwater to just one game, with the Seals now in striking distance of the top four.
Pinjarra defeat Warnrbo
Quick runs were the order of the day for Pinjarra, with a number of sharp knocks leading them over the Swans.
Jason Poolman (77* off 98), Jamie Lee (76 off 97) and Chris Zadow (48 off 42) all starred with the bat to lead the Tigers to a 6/239 total.
Their efficiency with the blade translated to their bowling, with Jacob Gittos (3/16) leading the way as the side claimed a win at home despite a spirited 41 runs from Ben Doudle.
Pinjarra will take on Baldivis next week.
South Mandurah defeat Hillman
A stunning bowling performance spearheaded by Phil Wirth and Matt Hill paved the way for South Mandurah to cruise past Hillman on Saturday.
Wirth (5/17) and Hill (3/14) were at the forefront of a Falcons attack that restricted Hillman to just 52 runs before they were all out in the 26th over.
South Mandurah responded with Jesse Buck’s 71 enough to top Hillman’s score on its own, while Hill (35) and Nicholas Scholl (37) pitched in with strong totals.
The Falcons remain just outside the top four by less than a point.
Singleton Irwinians defeat Halls Head
Singleton picked up their 12th win of the season with a strong batting performance leading them past Halls Head on Saturday.
Halls Head received solid contributions from Levi Muller (30), Scott Martin (31*) and Chris Phelps (28) on their way to 9/152, but the Irwinians were able to conquer the target comfortably.
Daniel Jones led the way with an unbeaten 74, while Tim Hutchison (67) and Bryce Evans (47) also shone with the bat in hand as Singleton rallied for 5/245 and a victory.
The Irwinians take on Shoalwater Bay next week.
Waroona defeat Baldivis
A Nic Rep century and some insanely efficient bowling from Ben Wright secured a big win for the league leaders over the weekend.
Rep’s perfect 100 runs teamed with Jayden Derosa’s 45 and Daniel Abel’s 31 to lead Waroona to 233 runs before being dismissed on the penultimate delivery, but Wright’s bowling led the way as their attack made sure Baldivis wouldn’t come close.
Wright finished with a stunning 3/1 from his three overs, with Derosa’s 3/12 the perfect compliment as their side restricted the White Knights to just 86 runs.
The win keeps Waroona atop the table.
