Seven Peel Cricket Association clubs will take to the turfs at Stan Twight Reserve and Meadow Springs Sporting Complex in a bid to earn their way into the Peel Premier League T20 finals this Sunday.
The competition will be split between two groups with Shoalwater Bay, Singleton, Pinjarra and Warnbro making up pool one at Stan Twight, while Mandurah, Hillman and Baldivis round out the second group at Meadow Springs.
The top two performing squads from pool one will progress through to the finals, set to be played on March 3, with the first-placed side booking an early spot in the grand final.
Second place will take on the top outfit from pool two in a preliminary clash with a grand final berth on the line.
Peel Cricket Association operations manager Rob Wallace said the 20-over carnival was one of the bigger events on the PCA calendar, and offered players a break from the usual 50-over games.
“It’s just good for the players to have something different, and it’s a fun and exciting way for them to have a game of cricket,” he said.
“Clubs also get to mix players from their lower grades with the A-grade teams, and they’re always looking for big performances from blokes who might play B or C-grade in the 50-over format.
“We always really look forward to the premier league tournament.”
In a PCA first, the league will also be holding a fastest bowler and biggest hitter tournament at the T20 finals in March.
An authentic speed gun will be used to track the bowlers while batsmen will have free reign to let loose at the bowling machine.
“We sort of just put the feelers out to hold those competitions and the response we got was massive,” Wallace said.
“It’s going to be interesting and should be a bit of fun for the players.”
Peel Premier League games kick off this Sunday from 9am at Stan Twight Reserve and Meadow Springs Sporting Complex.
