South Mandurah continued its charge towards a spot in the Peel Cricket Association’s finals race when a Michael Holmes century led the side to a convincing win over Mandurah on Saturday.
It comes as the Falcons’ third straight win, all of which have come against top four teams.
While Michael Holmes led the way with the bat, it was an efficient performance from the bowling attack spearheaded by Brad Holmes that saw Souths in a position to close out the victory.
Batting first, Mandurah was in trouble early despite Justin Solly’s best efforts accumulating 35 runs.
The third-placed side saw regular wickets fall around them as Brad Holmes (3/12) and Scott Atkin (4/20) led the charge, dismantling the Mandurah attack to see them ousted on 112.
South Mandurah looked in dire straits themselves when they were trapped in a 4/23 hole, but a 192-run partnership between Michael Holmes and Nick Scholl gave the Falcons all they needed to cruise past the required total and post 9/247.
Holmes was dominant in his big day out, smashing his way to a 109 total while Scholl was the perfect support act, tallying 66.
Matt Hill was the only other Falcons batsman to breach double figures with 15 runs.
Solly provided a bright spot for an otherwise bleak Mandurah bowling attack, taking 3/6 from his three overs.
South Mandurah still sit just an inch outside the top four, residing in fifth behind Pinjarra.
Their schedule gets considerably easier over the next few weeks, with games against the bottom two sides in Hillman and Warnbro on the horizon for the next fortnight.
Shoalwater Bay defeat Halls Head
Solid knocks from Chris Phelps (88 not out) and Will Eason (57 not out) weren’t enough to secure a win for Halls Head as a team effort got the job done for Shoalwater Bay in round 13.
The Halls Head duo helped their side compile 4/208 from their 50 overs in the face of some restrictive bowling from Grant Coles (1/5 off five overs, four maidens), but Daniel Swain’s 61 runs sparked a healthy innings for the Seals and paved the way for a win.
The victory counts as Shoalwater’s sixth on the season, and keeps them just one game shy of South Mandurah and Pinjarra.
Pinjarra defeat Hillman
The Tigers snapped a four-game losing streak when they took down the Hornets at Stan Twight Reserve on Saturday.
Jacob Gittos’ form with the ball remained superb with a 3/8 outing, as he teamed with Craig Jones (4/42) to limit Hillman to 157 runs.
Pinjarra lost two wickets before they could even record a run, but were able to steady through Patrick Gorman (63) and Jake Foley (39) as they made their way to 9/194.
Dylan Van Der Kwast starred with the ball for the Hornets, finishing with 3/18.
Singleton defeat White Knights Baldivis
Singleton picked up their 11th win of the season when solid contributions from all players led them to a victory over Baldivis.
Batting first, Mitch Brown did his best to give Baldivis hope with 64 runs, but the side could only muster 134 before being dismissed.
Singleton lost Danny Woollard early but steadied through Mitchell Shellam’s 77 as they side dashed away to a 265 total.
They will play Halls Head next week.
Waroona defeat Warnbro
Waroona made it two wins a row when a Jayden Derosa century saw them cruise past the bottom-placed Swans.
Sent into bat first, Warnbro held its ground until the 48th overs but was unable to do much damage, posting a mere 109 runs.
Derosa’s 113 passed that singlehandedly, while 77 from Ben Wright added to Warnbro’s woes as Waroona worked its way to 6/281 from its 50 overs.
