A different cast of volunteers will perform on stage every night in a unique show coming to Mandurah this March – and the local theatre want your help to fill the stage!
The Mandurah Performing Arts Centre (MPAC) will host Oedipus Schmoedipus, a show by Sydney company post that takes dozens of the great theatre classics, picks out the death scenes, mixes them together and hands them back to the people.
Fed up with white men staging the deaths of white men in plays written by white men, the white ladies of post have pirated the classics to confront the great unknown.
For this mammoth undertaking of gore, laments, requiems and war cries, the troupe will be joined by 25 volunteers – a fresh new cast fresh for each performance.
MPAC are looking for local volunteers to put their hand up and get involved.
A post spokesperson said the volunteers do not need theatre experience.
“You will rehearse with post on the day of performance,” the spokesperson said.
“You won't need to memorise anything. There is a whole range of roles and you won't be asked to do anything you aren’t comfortable with.”
All participants will be provided with a light meal and one complimentary ticket to the show.
The show will be held on March 8, from 7.30pm, March 9 from 1pm and 7.30pm and March 10 at 7.30pm.
