A San Remo man who was left distraught after losing his late wife’s wedding ring has been reunited with the treasure.
While walking at the 2017 Community Christmas Pageant in Mandurah, Graham Bateman’s leather necklace with his and his wife Margaret’s gold rings attached, broke.
Shortly after the event, the grandfather of six noticed the rings missing.
Desperate to find the rings Mr Bateman returned to Mandurah Terrace early the next morning and traced his steps.
The search proved fruitless and Mr Bateman returned home empty-hand.
Luckily his ring was found and handed into nearby cafe, Janice Coffee Pot, days later.
Despite the news, Mr Bateman said it was his wife’s ring that meant the most to him.
However, miracles really do happen and Mandurah resident Mandy Hare contacted Mr Bateman to say she had found the prized possession.
The support worker found Mr Bateman after she posted about the ring on a popular Facebook page in an effort to find its owner.
“Hey guys posting again. Found a wedding ring at the foreshore after the Christmas pageant. Describe your missing ring and it will be returned,” the post read.
Various users responded, linking the the woman with Mr Bateman.
The day after the pageant, Ms Hare found the ring while sitting on the grass along the Mandurah Foreshore with a client and another support worker.
Ms Hare had been holidaying in Bali over the new year and upon returning met with Mr Bateman to reunite the grandfather with the precious ring.
Mr Bateman said he was “over the moon” that the ring had been found.
He said he was grateful there was good people out there, like Mandy.
Mr Bateman said he was overwhelmed by the positive feedback he received from the community and thanked everyone who tried to help him.
Mr and Ms Bateman used to attend the pageant together, every year.
The duo married in 1966, when Mr Batman was 22 years old and Ms Bateman was 19 years old.
Ms Bateman died in November 2016 of cancer, aged 69.
“We were married for 50 years and we had three kids. She was a pretty wonderful lady,” he said.
