A Lakelands resident is competing against other national finalists to represent Australia in the Miss Galaxy 2018 competition, to be held in Florida this July.
Nirma Gooransing will be travelling to the Gold Coast to compete in the final that runs from March 14-17.
Originally from Mauritius, Ms Gooransing said she was relieved she received her Australian Citizenship last year so that she qualified for the contest.
The entry requirements for Mrs Galaxy include being an Australian resident, legally married and over 21-years-old.
The Australia Galaxy website says the women are judged on five areas that each get an equal 20 percent weight that include photographic, interview, fashion wear, swimwear and evening gown.
Ms Gooransing said she is very excited about being chosen as a finalist and likes that the competition is about “inner beauty more than outer beauty”.
“They focus on raising money for charities,” Ms Gooransing said.
“I am raising money for Make A Wish Australia with a target to raise $3000.
“It makes my heart and soul happy and I love knowing that I'm making a difference.”
The national finalist said she had been provided coaching sessions that include advice on grooming, interviews and how to dress.
