Perth residents who have been enjoying the recent streak of hot summer weather are in for a rude awakening on the weekend with a fierce storm set to hit the metropolitan area.
The deep low is expected to bring heavy rainfall, low temperatures and strong winds typically experienced in winter to the metropolitan area.
Cricket lovers hoping Australia will reclaim the Ashes with a win in the Perth Test could be left disappointed if the tourists put up a fight with a 90 per cent chance of rain expected on Sunday and more showers forecast the following day.
Darryl Vink from Perth's Bureau of Meteorology said the unseasonal weather will start to hit the south-west corner of the state on Saturday evening, with showers expected to develop over the city later that night.
The heaviest falls are forecast for Sunday afternoon with rain expected to last throughout the evening and into Monday, before conditions settle on early Tuesday morning.
"It's coming," Mr Vink said.
"It's certainly going to get wet and windy."
A strong wind warning is likely to be issued ahead of the storm, with a gale warning also a possibility.
Swells of up to six metres are expected off-shore, but surfers won't see much action until Tuesday when winds drop off.
