Two 10-year-old local dancers have cleaned up at the Australian DanceSport Championships held at Hisense Arena in Melbourne.
Mathew Ireland from Meadow Springs and Nikitta Harris from Austin Cove represented the region in the biggest DanceSport event of the year, which attracted competitors from all over Australia, New Zealand, Estonia and Asia.
Mathew and Nikitta won three gold medals, one silver and two bronze in the under-13 Juvenile Ballroom, Latin and New Vogue events.
Mathew, who attends Meadow Springs Primary School, and Nikitta who is a student at St Josephs Primary in Pinjarra, have been dancing together for two years.
They are now Australian Champions and were selected on the WA State team.
Mathew and Nikitta work hard after school, training with coach Debbie Godenzi from DanceZone in Singleton.
“They are great young ambassadors for our region and State,” Ms Godenzi said.
“They are so talented and one day would like to compete at World Championships overseas.”
