Superstar Mandurah Catholic College (MCC) surfers Ruby Allen and April McPherson will hit the water in Sydney with the hopes of becoming national champions this weekend after progressing through to finals at the Australia Junior Surfing Titles.
Representing WA as the under 19s girls team in the Mark Richards Shield competition, the pair surfed superbly in their opening round, overcoming teams from New South Wales and South Australia to win their group book an early spot in the finals.
There they will face off against Queensland, who took out a win in group two, and Victoria and New South Wales who won their way to the finals in the second round.
Team manager Justin Majeks said the pair performed brilliantly in the first round.
“They’ve surfed really well and it’s great for WA that they’ve made it to the final,” he said.
“Everyone will be cheering for them when they surf either this Friday or Saturday, and hopefully they can take it all out.”
The pair has been in stunning form prior to the national titles, particularly shining in their victory over Margaret River Senior High School in the state school stages.
It was MCC’s first win over the southern school in the history of the titles.
