A prolific knock from batsman Hayden Lynn was all the firepower Baldivis needed to snap a three-game skid as they took down South Mandurah at Peelwood Turf on Saturday afternoon.
Lynn blasted his way to a strong 60 as the White Knights chased down South Mandurah’s total of 129, seeing out their overs to post a respectable 9/211 and claim their first win in just shy of a month.
The Falcons were sent into bat first and found themselves down a wicket before they’d scored a run when opener Rod Tregenza was caught off a Kyle Ralph delivery.
Jesse Buck fell shortly after as Souths’ second duck of the day, leaving the side in a 2/7 slump.
A 42-run partnership between Matt Hill (32) and Brad Holmes (25) dared to breathe life into the Falcons’ innings, but the duo’s efforts wouldn’t be enough to overcome what would go on to be a total five ducks for South Mandurah as they were dismissed in the 38th over.
Luke Gray was the height of efficiency with the ball for the White Knights, conceding just 11 runs from his eight overs, a spell that included a pair of wickets.
But the White Knights were far from home as they took to the crease looking to break the 100-run barrier for the first time in three weeks.
Things looked grim when Jai Sinclair went down with just two runs on the board, followed by the loss of third-in-line Adam Bremner (18).
But Lynn’s arrival in the middle allowed Baldivis to steady, as he found the boundary rope on eight occasions on his way to a classy 60.
Stefan Botha’s 36 lent strong support to their final total, along with Grant Pilling’s unbeaten 20.
The win is Baldivis’ second on the season, lifting them to seventh on the ladder and breaking a three-game losing streak after facing the league’s top three in consecutive weeks.
Singleton Irwinians defeat Mandurah
The reigning premiers flexed their muscles when they cruised past top-four opponent Mandurah on Saturday.
A prolific bowling performance against one of the league’s premier batting line-ups led the way for Singleton, with Justin Solly (42*) and Ian Lattimore (11) the only Mandurah batsmen to breach double figures as the Irwinians had them all out on 105.
Singleton openers Danny Woollard (52) and Tim Hutchison (72) almost accounted for Mandurah’s total on their own with a 91-run opening stand.
Ian Bowes hit a fine 34* to put the finishing touches on for Singleton, as they finished their innings 8/244.
Pinjarra defeat Halls Head
Pinjarra stretched their winning streak to five straight games when they fended off a determined Halls Head outfit on Saturday.
Halls Head came agonisingly close to hunting down the Tigers’ 8/181 total, but fell just short when they wrapped up their 50 overs on 9/176.
Solid batting from Chris Zadow (54) and Jamie Lee (42) gave Pinjarra more than half of their total, but a spread of contributions from Levi Muller (29), Chris Phelps (29) and Will Eason (27) sparked the Halls Head chase.
In the end, it was Pinjarra holding on for the win as they moved into second on the ladder.
Hillman Hornets defeat Warnbro Swans
Hillman produced their first win of the season when they took down the Swans in a battle of the only remaining winless sides on the weekend.
An even spread of batting contributions allowed Hillman to chase down the Warnbro’s total of 133, posting 183 themselves before being dismissed in the late stages of the innings.
Liam Carvell’s knock of 34 led the way for the Hornets, teaming with Jaxson Ball’s 31 and Aiden McCartan’s 21 to see them to their first victory of the campaign.
Wayne Hasson shone with the ball in hand, taking 1/15 off seven overs.
