It was a huge year for the Waroona Demons in 2009, as they broke a 20-year premiership drought with a victory over South Mandurah.
Captain Adam Clancy and coach Paul Pannell were able to lift the cup high for the club’s first PFL grand final win, after the Demons conquered the Falcons to the tune of 19 points with Dustin Roberts taking out the best on ground award.
But South Mandurah was not without its own success.
They produced a pair of Ross Elliott medallists on the year, with teammates Rowan Arnott and Paul White tying for the league’s top individual honour on 19 votes while Baldivis’ Eddie Dann came in runner up.
Falcons Spearhead Rod Tregenza booted 132 goals to once again lead the league in scoring.
The two sides finished as the top two on the regular season, followed by Mandurah, Baldivis and Pinjarra who all played finals.
Centrals won five games to finish in sixth, ahead of Rockingham who took out four wins on the year.
In their single season with the PFL, Armadale could not muster a win and joined the WA Amateur Football League a year later.
South Mandurah took out the flag in the reserves while Halls Head won the colts premiership.
