The Peel region’s young surfers are gearing up to hit the waves for the Mandurah Board Riders’ junior summer series kicking off next month.
The season will see the board riders hold six competitions across the warmer months, as they look to develop their future generation and introduce them to competitive surfing.
“It’s all about nurturing that next crop of state champions and showing them what its like to surf in competitions,” Mandurah Board Riders president Brian Williams said.
“We’ve got a really good bunch of juniors in Mandurah so if we can develop them we’ll be producing quality surfers for another generation.
“It’s also about showing the kids the fun side of surfing. They get to go out there and compete against their mates and make a whole heap of new friends as well.
“Our ethos is to get the juniors enjoying their surfing, and then show them the competition side of things.”
The summer series kicks off in November going all the way through to March, with Mandurah Surf Lessons’ Ian McPherson also on deck to help the youngsters hone their skills.
The Mandurah Board Riders are holding a registration day this Saturday, October 21 at Falcon Bay from 9am.
