Hundreds of the state’s best archers will descend on Lake Clifton when the Peel Archers host the 2017 Australian Bowhunters Association WA state championships later this month.
The two-day event will see shooters travel from as far north as Geraldton and as far south as Albany to compete for a state title, with the Peel-based club thrilled to host the crown event.
“It’s really exciting for us to be able to showcase our club and our base to all the other clubs from around the state,” club coach Ken Gosper said.
“We’ve recently added a number of extensions to our club so to get the opportunity to host an event like this is definitely a thrill for us.
“Also the work everyone at the club does behind the scenes, this is a bit of reward for their efforts.
“We’re really proud to be hosting an event like this and hopefully we can put on a good show for everyone.”
It will be the second time the club has had the privilege of hosting a statewide competition in its short four-year history, with the locals hoping they can take full advantage of competing on their home base.
“I definitely think a lot of our juniors have a really good chance at taking out a few state titles,” Gosper said.
“We’ve got some really good kids coming through so hopefully they can show off their skills on the big stage.”
The state championships kick off on Saturday, October 28 with camping available at the club from 4pm on the Friday night.
