Greenfields youngster Lenny Williams will say goodbye to his long blonde locks when he cuts off his hair for Variety’s Hair with Heart fundraising project later this month.
The 12-year-old has been growing his hair out for over two years and will donate his 35-centimetre strands to the children’s charity to be made into wigs for those who have lost their hair through medical treatment.
This year will mark the second time Lenny has donated to the cause, following a fundraising drive in May 2015 where he raised just short of $2000.
The long-haired local said it meant a lot to him to help other children in need.
“It’s just good to be able to help other people with it,” he said.
“It always grows back.”
Lenny will be getting his hair chopped off by his Mandurah Swimming Club teammates on Friday, October 27, who along with his mum Tammy have been helping him raise money for the drive.
The youngster has set himself the goal of raising $1500 this time around, and in just two weeks has already surpassed the $1000 mark.
“The support we’ve had from the community has been awesome, we really didn’t expect it to take off like this,” Tammy said.
“The swim club has been great as well, and for them to let us hold the haircut there and support Lenny is just amazing.”
