Fire crews are at the scene of a blaze on Elizabeth Street, Mandurah.
Just after 2pm, a shed at the back of a home erupted in flames, engulfing a boat and work equipment.
Two fire crews were at the scene by 2.25pm attempting to bring the fire under control.
Police were also attending.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
A passing motorist who raised the alarm criticised the time it took for fire crews to be alerted, saying he was waiting on hold after he called emergency services.
“The response time was bloody atrocious,” he said.
“I got on the phone and then when I said there was a fire in Elizabeth Street, they asked me what town I was in and when I said Mandurah they said what state are you in.
“And then they phoned through to the fire brigade, then the fire brigade’s got to answer, but fortunately by the time my call got put through somebody just had got on top of it.”
