The Peel region’s aspiring future generation of cricketers took to the turf for round one of the Peel Junior Cricket Association over the weekend, with several grades enjoying the perfect weather.
The under 13s Singleton Irwinians made sure they kicked off their season on the right foot, taking out a win over Kwinana Maroon at Orelia Oval.
Led by Sam Noble who claimed a brilliant 2/13 in his bowling spell and recorded an unbeaten 34 with the bat, they were able they were able to post 3/182 and hold Kwinana to 9/97.
Akashay Duhan was the best of the bowlers for Kwinana Maroon taking 2/17.
In the under 14s competition the Mandurah derby between Mandurah Blue and White saw a hotly contested fixture with neither side scoring more than 100 runs.
Mandurah Blue batted first and posted a score of 10/64 with William Rugendyke scoring 26 not out.
In reply, Mandurah White scraped over the line with 10/79, despite the best efforts of Aiden Stone 3/3, Sam Costley 2/12 and Sachin Johnson 2/2.
Sunday morning saw Hillman Hornets take on White Knights Baldivis in the under 15s competition.
White Knights batted first and managed 10/122 thanks to some tight bowling from Hillman with Harry Steele leading the way taking 2/3.
Harry was supported by a host of Hillman bowlers including Samuel Otto 1/6 and Oliver Wainright 1/21.
Hillman (6/183) cruised to victory thanks to a unbeaten half century from Jayden Mackley which included six 4s and three 6s.
John Sanders and Harry Steele wrapped up the win for Hillman scoring 38 and 33 respectively.
In the under 17s, Shoalwater Bay took on Mandurah Junior at Meadow Springs Turf.
Shoalwater batted first, scoring 9/144 while Matthew Kuipers led the way with the ball for Mandurah taking 4/13 from five overs.
In reply, Mandurah could only manage 6/92 thanks to some tight bowling from Shoalwater.
The Peel Junior Cricket Association is currently seeking sponsors for the 2017/18 season to jump on board it’s range of opportunities, including the Peel Perth Scorchers under 13s Girls League, their nation-leading umpiring academy and the annual Peel carnival.
