The Baldivis Brumbies rampaged to a win in the Peel Football and Netball League reserves grand final with a monumental drubbing of the South Mandurah Falcons on Saturday.
The Brumbies only allowed the Falcons one goal as they steamrolled over the minor premiers with an 11.9 (75) to 1.7 (13) performance.
It was an an almost instantaneous start that paved the way for their enormous win, as the Brumbies booted the first goal straight out of the centre bounce with less than a minute wiped off the clock.
They followed it with another, this time from Ryan Wilson, before the South Mandurah defence was able to steady and somewhat stem the flow.
With their back six doing their best to repel entries under duress, the Souths’ midfielders were able to start winning their share of contests and drive the ball forward.
But the Falcons floundered entering their forward 50m arch and were unable to worry the scorers.
Up the other end, Baldivis continued to mount the scoreboard pressure.
Best on ground Joel Ritchie was a force up front, while Jacob Brownley, Ryan Wilson and Mark Wilson made the most of their opportunities.
At quarter time the Brumbies led by 20 points, at half time it was out to 42.
At the final change Baldivis held a 59-point buffer and the Falcons were yet to register a goal.
It wasn’t until midway through the fourth term that they were able to shake the monkey from their backs, when Kristoffer Povey booted South Mandurah first, and only, goal for the day.
The Baldivis defence was the premiership side’s biggest asset across the four quarters, as they refused to give South Mandurah’s forwards any space.
Time after time they were able to cruise the ball out of the back half and spark passages of play moving forward.
Their efforts kept South Mandurah scoreless in the first and third quarters, and restricted them to just three points in the second.
It’s the first time Baldivis has been able to take home a reserves flag.
