The state government is considering imposing a minimum floor price on takeaway alcohol after Health Minister Roger Cook raised concerns retailers were selling bottles of wine for less than $3.
The revelation came on Tuesday during budget estimates.
Mr Cook said he had asked the Mental Health Commission and Department of Health to investigate the option of imposing a minimum floor price on liquor sales in an attempt to reduce alcohol-related harm.
ABC News reported Mr Cook said details on how the floor price would be set, enforced or introduced were yet to be determined.
"You've had recently an announcement by Aldi that they'll be looking to sell bottles of wine for as low as $2.78 each," Mr Cook said.
"That represents a significant threat to the public health of our community.
"In 2014 one person was hospitalised for an alcohol attributable condition every 27 minutes, and there were 113,500 hospital bed days used in 2014 and 545 alcohol-related deaths in 2013."
Aldi has faced opposition from the executive director of Public Health on every application it has submitted to Liquor Licensing to allow alcohol to be sold in its stores.
"The applicant's proposed manner of trade has the potential to increase the exposure of alcohol to juveniles who may attend the store for general grocery supermarket items, either with or without a parent," its submission against Aldi's Wattlegrove store liquor application said.
The store was later granted a license, joining Aldi's Butler and Harrisdale stores.
Its Joondalup store was refused the right to sell alcohol while its Rockingham and Kalumunda stores are awaiting approval.
The German supermarket giant proposes to sell bottles of wine as cheap as $2.79 at its Harrisdale outlet.
Premier Mark McGowan in May said he felt "uncomfortable" the outlet had been approved to sell wine at such a low price.
An Aldi spokeswoman said on Wednesday the company abided by all regulations for the purchase of alcohol.
"Aldi shares concerns about the effect of alcohol consumption in the community and as such, is committed to organisations such as DrinkWise and Local Liquor Accords," she said.
"We were the first Australian retailer to partner with DrinkWise Australia as part of our social responsibility stance in relation to alcohol.
"Aldi does not have a large format liquor store and does not carry any chilled alcohol products for immediate consumption."
