Jamie’s Ministry of Food West Australian mobile kitchen will be coming to Mandurah in November to teach cooking tips and tricks to local residents.
The kitchen classroom on wheels will be based at the Brighton Hotel carpark, on Barracks Lane, offering 20-minute cooking sessions during five weeks, starting November 20.
The classroom will run courses six days a week, including weekend and evening courses, which will be based on Jamie Oliver’s beliefs about the link between cooking and healthy living.
The courses will teach attendees hints, tips and and basic home cooking skills in an effort to encourage them to cook from scratch using fresh food.
The program, which is the result of a three-year partnership between The Good Foundation and Edith Cowan University, has been brought to Mandurah by local space activation organisation Shape Mandurah.
“Shape Mandurah’s goal is to activate city spaces and engage with the community, and by the mobile kitchen coming to Mandurah, not only are these objectives met, but we have a real opportunity to help residents feel connected through learning, participating and eating,” a Shape Mandurah spokesperson said.
“Shape Mandurah is excited as to what surrounding projects and ideas will come from this initiative, with a community garden being high on the list and a perfect follow on from the education people will receive about healthy eating and lifestyle.”
The Good Foundation chief Felicia Mariani said they were thrilled to visit Mandurah.
“Our program inspires and empowers people to change the way they and their families eat, and how they think about food,” she said.
“Knowing that our program works, we’re thrilled to visit Mandurah to help change the food habits of local residents.”
While in Mandurah, Jamie’s Ministry of Food Mobile Kitchen will deliver hands-on basic cooking classes led by a team of dedicated food trainers who will be supported by local volunteers.
The course is open to people aged 12 years and over looking to learn the basics of cooking while having some fun in the kitchen learning Jamie’s hints, tips and shortcuts.
Classes will cost $20 per person, $15 for students and $10 for concession.
