‘Prost’ Mandurah!
From October 6 to October 8, Dolphin Quay will become a small Bavaria, with plenty of German-inspired entertainment on to celebrate Oktoberfest.
Businesses around Dolphin Quay have team up to put the event together, which is set to include plenty of German food, beer in steins and live entertainment.
Throughout the Oktoberfest weekend, the area will be decorated in the Bavarian colours and staff members will serve German food wearing ‘dirndls’, the traditional outfit from Austria, Bavaria and South Tirol worn during Oktoberfest.
Attendees to the event will be able to participate in schnitzel eating competitions, give riding Shawn the Sheep a go and get their own 2017 Oktoberfest stein for free with every beer ordered at the bar.
Bavarian-style bands Tout Droit, Alpen Duo, Edelweiss and Oompah will also get attendees into the grove playing traditional German music at a special outdoor stage while dancers perform in traditional dresses.
The event will also be child-friendly, with facepainting, fairy floss and entertainment available for young attendees.
Mandurah’s Oktoberfest was the brainchild of Dolphin Quay chief Greg Poland, who came up with the idea of holding his own German festival after attending an Oktoberfest in Europe.
Dolphin Quay manager David Somerville said last year’s Oktoberfest event at Oceanic Bar and Grill had proven to be popular and he said the team planned to transform the Dolphin Quay festival into an annual event.
Opening times for the event will be:
- 4pm to 10pm on Friday October 6.
- 11am to 10pm on Saturday October 7.
- 11am to 4pm on Sunday October 8.
