Mandurah’s fitness enthusiasts, residents and children diagnosed with autism will hit the gym on Saturday morning to raise funds for autism support services and research.
The initiative is part of the global event Lift Up Autism, a campaign to highlight the impact of the condition in families and individuals across the world while raising much-needed funds for autism support services.
Mandurah’s Family First Fitness will hold their own event on September 23, donating one dollar to the cause for every 5-minute workout completed on the day.
Attendees to the event will be able to carry out a full, scaled or children’s workout version.
Gym owner Michelle Wong, who worked as a teacher for 15 years and specialised in autism, said the event helped to raise much needed awareness and understanding.
“I am passionate about creating a program in this gym to support those with autism and their families to provide an all inclusive program,” she said.
“This event highlights autism, and the need to provide more funding for research and support”.
The event will take off at 10am on Saturday. Family First Fitness is located on 56 Reserve Drive.
Participants can donate to the Lift Up Event on the day or online at familyfirstfitness.com.au.
