A Pinjarra mum has taken to social media to lash the “ferals” who don’t clean up after themselves in Dwellingup’s pristine bush areas.
Michelle Hartley said she spent more time cleaning up after other people on the weekend than enjoying the area with her husband and children.
“My whinge – In Dwellingup to go motorbike riding with hubby and kids, end up spending half the time cleaning up after these feral f**ks,” she wrote as a comment in a popular Facebook group.
Ms Hartley said she often takes her children out behind Oakley Dam to ride their trail bikes and was fed up with the rubbish left behind in the area.
Social media users applauded Ms Hartley for bringing attention to the problem, which is not unique to the Peel region, but occurs wherever there are public camping grounds.
“Thanks for cleaning up others’ filth,” wrote one social media user.
“It’s just so wrong, we camp at amazing places – pay a small fee.
“Then you arrive and find douchebags couldn’t be bothered to take rubbish with them.”
Illegal dumping has long been recognised as a problem in the Shire of Murray, with the authority moving to grant residents free access to the district’s two tips from September 1, 2017.
The Shire of Murray is also offering residents who have a 240 litre recycle bin an upgrade to a 360 litre recycle bin, for a one-off fee of $40 with no additional ongoing cost.
The Keep Australia Beautiful website warns the maximum penalty for littering by an individual is $5000 and illegal dumpers face a maximum penalty of $62,500 under environmental legislation.
