Crime figures released by WA police show on average three people are being assaulted in Mandurah every day.
Mandurah’s CBD also tops the list as the local suburb with the largest number of assaults, with almost as many assaults happening in the area as in Northbridge, Perth’s most popular nightlife district.
Between January and June this year, police received 202 reports of assaults in the suburb, only 27 fewer than in Northbridge.
Despite accounting for less that 10 per cent of the City of Mandurah’s population, the suburb accounts for almost 40 per cent of the assaults, with one person being assaulted every day on average.
Following central Mandurah on the list are the suburbs of Greenfields and Coodanup, which recorded 67 and 54 assaults respectively, a number significantly lower.
Between January and June this year, police received 202 reports of assaults in Mandurah's CBD, only 27 less than in Northbridge.
Central Mandurah is also topping the list for the highest number of burglaries, with 128 break-ins reported to police between January and June.
During the same period of time, people reported 67 burglaries in Greenfields, 42 in Dudley Park and 35 in Coodanup.
Despite the alarming figures, Mandurah police acting senior sergeant Brad Davey said August showed a continued fall in burglary, theft and motor vehicle stealing rates.
He said the local police team would continue to target stealing and burglary offences throughout September and he encouraged residents to make it harder for offenders to break in.
“Let’s make it harder for offenders by locking doors, windows, closing garages and securing property out of sight,” he said.
“Offenders often target car keys, smart phones, tablets in residences and motor vehicles.”
He advised residents not to leave their keys out and encouraged locals to activate the tracking features in their devices.
Acting Snr-sgt Davey said Mandurah police would also continue to focus on family and domestic violence offences.
“Any occurrence of domestic violence will be investigated proactively and offenders prosecuted,” he said.
“If you are a victim of family domestic violence or know someone that is please report it to police.”
